Review of
Bid For Power: Quake III Arena Mod (PC)

By Ryan Wellman

I love this mod, it so awesome. It takes on a Dragon Ball Z feeling, but because of legal issues, they had to make different characters and name it something different. There are however models of the original Dragon Ball Z characters that you can add later. When they shoot energy, the character will actually yell out and say the name of the move in Japanese just like in the original cartoons. It is amazingly done, and I love the look and feel. You have so much control of your actions in this game, and I never get tired of it.

There are many things that make this game so awesome. First of all, you fly around at amazing speeds looking for your enemy. When you find them you have many different ways to attack. There are energy attacks in which you shoot at your opponent and your ki goes down. Then there are physical attacks that you use for close up combat, and it looks true to the cartoon. You can charge up your ki very easily, which definitely comes in handy. You also have a block button, which I hardly ever use, but I am sure it works well. After you’ve killed so many people you will power up and become stronger, your health will be full and you will have more energy moves. You can teleport left or right as well, giving you so much more control. If used correctly, you can teleport out of the way of a big ball of energy, or even disappear from your enemy’s view, making them easier to kill.

Also, with the charge up energy attacks, the longer you hold in the button, the more powerful the energy attack will be when released. The energy flies out in a straight line towards your target, but if you move the target the beam of energy will bend to try to go to the new target. It’s awesome.
This game is so true to the cartoon that it isn’t funny. I love Dragon Ball Z, and it makes me happy to see a truly good representation of it in a game. This game really had me wanting to play a similar game in virtual reality. That would be friggin’ awesome, but I have a feeling that VR won’t be out for many years, and when it does come out, DBZ will probably be a thing of the past.

Altogether this game gets a 10 out of 10

I’m not totally sure if this game is cheatable, but I don’t see why not
This game isn’t beatable because it doesn’t have a story mode; it’s strictly fighting bots or multi-player
This game is very good for multiplayer combat, and is much better than single player, although it is fun too
They don’t rent this game out; you have to own Quake III and then download the Bid for Power mod from http://www.planetquake.com/bidforpower

This game is in my top 10 of all time
