Review of
CY Girls (PS2)
By Ryan Wellman

You can’t go wrong when you have sexy women with guns and swords kicking ass. Well, they almost did this time with the all new CY Girls for the PS2. I started playing this game with high hopes, watching the cinematic scenes of a girl in the shower, I was psyched. Somehow they made the game pretty unbearable however. This game comes with two discs, one for each girl that you can control. The first disc is Ice, a gun toting queen who has lost parts of her memory and then became a hacker. The second disc is Aska, a ninja chick looking for clues to her parents murders.

As Ice, you will start out as a hacker who must infiltrate a company who has information on you. You must delete that information and escape before anyone knows you were even there. On the way you will dive into cyberspace, a virtual reality like place where you can see the files and learn skills by downloading them. This cyberspace is called Cy-D, for reasons I don’t quite know. You find out that you are special, and people want to capture you alive.

Aska is awesome, she has so many sweet moves, such as instantly killing multiple enemies in front of her, Matrix like movements, and attacks that are so sweet that the whole room has to get darker. You know it’s sweet when the room goes dark and time slows down. When Aska dives into cyberspace it’s a little different. Ice uses her whole body and actually get’s absorbed into Cy-D, while Aska has to use an input device attached to her arm like normal divers.

These two women are on parallel quests, and both of them have to solve all kinds of puzzles. These puzzles were mostly annoying, and in no way easy. If you are looking for a challenge, this game would be perfect, as long as you don’t mind getting annoyed quite a bit.

There weren’t many new features that I seen in this game. There were ways to use cover in a doorway or a block on the ground, but that is very common in many of today’s games. Don’t get me wrong, I like this feature, but it wasn’t very interesting the 15th time around. The one thing I thought was cool was the fact that you could shoot from the ground though. If you were knocked down or you jumped to the floor, you could shoot in front of you, and then flip your body and shoot behind you. That was definitely something unique.

The controls for this game were something I had to get used to, and reminded me of steering a car in Halo. Wherever you point the target, that’s where they go, instead of being able to control turning with the right analog stick. All in all, I’d say I was somewhat disappointed in this title.
