Review of
Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (XBox)
By Ryan Wellman

Morrowind can best be described as an adventure game. You choose from a list of races and build your character from the bottom up. This takes forever, but that’s all part of the adventure. There are dungeons, towns, ruins, and monsters everywhere in the large island of Morrowind.

Morrowind is located in Tamriel, just like the rest of the Elder Scrolls series. Elder Scrolls 2 was the only other one in this series that I’ve played to compare with. It was named Daggerfall and I loved it, I would play it all the time. Morrowind looked great, and I thought that it was so amazing, but it really disappointed me in little ways.

First of all, there was no horse. In Daggerfall, you could buy a horse that would get you to where you needed to be faster. Not only that, but you could own a house, have a banking account, a carriage, and eventually your own boat. In Morrowind however, the only means of travel were very limited. You could walk, teleport through magic, pay to ride the slit strider, and in some places pay for a ferry. Not only that, but the only way you could have your own house would be to steal one by killing its owners.

In this game there are two quest modes. The first is the main quests, where the storyline of the game is, and the other is the side quests, where you earn money and experience doing freelance work for your guild. In Morrowind you go around with a weapon, such as a sword, dagger, bow, crossbow, ax, etc. and you have spells. There are no guns in this game because it is set back in the Middle Ages I think. Something’s fishy about this game though, it took on a Half-Life feeling by adding a bunch of alien looking creatures.

The graphics were only slightly better, and it wasn’t enough to get excited about. Instead of only being able to kill some of the people, in Morrowind you can attack everyone. When you do though, you will be attacked by all of their friends and any guards that are handy. If you do not like this sort of game, then you will hate it. It is very very long, and may seem never ending.

In Daggerfall, you were able to unequip the clothes, and if you chose a woman as your character, it would show all her stuff, but in this game it puts a bra and panties on her. There was a stripclub in Morrowind however, but they didn’t take anything off, they just danced with bathing suits on. It was disappointing. In Daggerfall you’d just be walking around and just happen to see a naked chick chillen, but I suppose they had to dull it down for the Xbox.

Altogether this game gets a 6 out of 10

This game is cheatable, but it would ruin the whole point of the game to use them. Go to www.gamewinners.com to view them
This game is beatable, but it is one of the longest out there
This game is single player, but if it were multi-player it might be much more enjoyable
Not rentable at all, but if you enjoy this sort of game like I do, you might want to buy it just so you’ll have an adventure all the time
