Jet Li has been in a lot of great fighting movies, and he’s made a name
for himself as one of the fastest and most acrobatic. He is quite a contender
with the great Jackie Chan, and that’s why is was big news that there
was a video game coming out where you can become Jet. His game was Rise To Honor,
and it was definitely a different way to play a fighting game.
Throw everything you know about control out the window, because this game has
an all new outlook on fighting. It sees the 360 degrees around a person, and
let’s you attack in any direction using the left analog stick. The rhythm
in which you push the attack direction determines a variety of different combos
and there are also a handful of grappling moves. These controls were cool at
first, and it was definitely innovative, but after a while it got old, and seemed
unresponsive.
That was just the fighting aspect, there were also situations where Jet was
packing led. He aims by using the same directional pad that he used to fight,
and it is somewhat weird to get adjusted to at first. The bad guys are sometimes
infinite, and at places, the gun is completely useless. When all the bad guys
in that room are dead, he will simply throw his unlimited ammo weapons away,
for some hand to hand combat. I don’t know, but if it was me, and I’ve
already killed almost 30 people with no feeling of remorse, those infinite ammo
guns might come in handy.
There were also parts of the game where you had to hide from the light. There
were security guards set up at various locations, and you had to sneak up on
them and tap them on the shoulder. That way they instantly pass out and it won’t
alert the others, even if they’re standing only ten feet away.
Anyway, this game wasn’t completely horrible it was just different. I
liked it in fact, and it was cool how different it was. Some of the parts were
extremely hard, and very frustrating. I beat it though, and there was absolutely
no replay value, unless you really liked it.
