Review of
Viewtiful Joe (Gamecube)
By Ryan Wellman

Robots, puzzles, fighting, and jumping around. Sounds familiar so far right, well, not exactly. What about changing the flow of time, moving with such speed that you are in six places at once, destroying so many robots that your fingers burn, and the ability to kick so much ass. Oh, yea, it’s viewtiful. Joe that is, and he will go through any mutant animal to save his girlfriend. The culprits are monsters from the world of movies, and they have plans on invading the real world. All Joe has to say about that is, “Eh, whatever.”

Finally, something new, something creative. It has been a while I believe, but good video games are coming back, and I couldn’t be happier. This game is a side-scrolling adventure, something I believed to be extinct. Somehow, they made this game work anyway, and used every bit of the Gamecube’s power.

The game starts out as a cell shaded normal Joe is watching movies with his girl, when suddenly they are both dragged into the world of movies. Captain Blue has been defeated and must teach Joe how to use Viewtiful powers, the only thing that can save the day. Joe becomes more and more powerful along the way, solves somewhat simple puzzles, and destroys helicopters and some of the best villains ever.

This game can be difficult at times, but you can play it in kid mode or adult. Either way, it is a challenge, but never once goes dryfrom beginning to end. Once you beat the game you can unlock new characters, letting you control your girlfriend and even Captain Blue among others. This game is a must have.
