Review of
Wario World (GameCube)
By Ryan Wellman

Wario is as evil and greedy as always in his appearance in the new Wario World. He is robbed of his treasures when one of them comes alive and infects the others. Wario has no choice but to restore his mansion and regain his wealth.

Throughout the game you learn how to control Wario, but you don’t get any more abilities or anything. It is a long way from Mario 64, and that’s pretty disappointing, given the fact that it’s a lot newer. Wario cannot jump as high as Mario, and it shows by his lack of acrobatics. Even though this game was made in 3d, most of the time it’ll be pretty two-dimensional.

Now I’m not saying that Wario isn’t completely harmless, he is rather evil. He can grab his opponents and throw them, spin them into a dizzy death, or powerbomb them into the ground. On his journey he meets little colorful animal thingies that’ll give him clues on what to do. Wario must seek out all of the red crystals and destroy all the bosses in order to open the giant treasure chest…. of dooom.

As I said, there’s not a lot new about this game, but the graphics are awesome. In certain parts there are weird puzzles and trippy scenery to take in, but it wasn’t enough for me to love the game as much as I had expected. Don’t get me wrong however, it wasn’t completely horrible.
